Stormwater Management Project

At the March Board of Directors meeting, Mr. Justin Pistore from the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services presented a proposed project that affects our community property. The proposed project involves installation of a floatables collector called a Bandalong (http://stormwatersystems.com/bandalong-litter-trap/) and a gated access point for maintenance of the Bandalong.  Access for installation and maintenance of the Bandalong is proposed to be located off of the parking lot of the adjacent Mt Vernon Plaza. A map is included below.

The purpose of the proposed project is to address concerns over the amount of floatable pollutants (primarily plastic bottles) which are transported downstream in Little Hunting Creek, collect and properly dispose of the floatables, and also to achieve water quality improvements.

As part of the coordination process, the county sought the approval from the HOA since the project will be located on property owned by The Grove at Huntley Meadows. With no cost to the association and no visible impact to our homeowners, the Board provided approval.
